About St Paul

St Paul is the second largest city in the state and the capital of Minnesota. After the Louisiana Purchase, land was negotiated with the Dakota tribe and Fort Snelling was built in 1819. Settlers, explorers, and missionaries all headed to the fort for protection and as a place to gather supplies. St Paul had become the gateway for those exploring Minnesota or the Dakotas. As the fort became more popular for trading, the surrounding area and growing community developed into a city and was named the capital of the Minnesota Territory in 1849.

Over time, certain neighborhoods began decaying and falling apart. There were several attempts at urban renewal during the 1950’s and 1960’s. As I-94 was built, neighborhoods were demolished in order to make way for new interstates or buildings. Small skyscrapers began to populate the landscape throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s including Galtier Plaza, The Pointe of Saint Paul condominiums, and Wells Fargo Place.
